In line with Always Nigeria’s passion to empower girls, they are donating 500,000 pads to Nigerian girls, through various NGOs who applied to be part of the #APadAGirl campaign and we are delighted to be one of the recipients of the sanitary pads.
The #APadAGirl campaign is aimed at encouraging and sensitizing girls between 11 and 16 years of age as well as young women between 18-24 years of age on the importance of using sanitary pads instead of other unhealthy options.
At South Saharan, we are passionate about empowering young girls. We are concerned that young girls are often exposed to information that affects their self-esteem. We interact with them through our Radio School project and have learnt about their fears and concerns; as a result of this, we created the #SafeSpace club for girls in schools, where we empower girls, and boost their self-esteem, while tackling their intellectual challenges through our education initiative Radio School which delivers curriculum based lessons through the radio to 292 schools in Enugu and 150 schools in Adamawa states.
In partnership with #AlwaysNG #APadAGirl initiative, we will distribute pads and aid young girls in the early years of their menstrual cycle. We will use our existing structure the ‘Girl-Friendly Corner’ to educate girls in over 400 secondary schools in Adamawa and Enugu states on menstrual hygiene, and create a more friendly atmosphere for girls who avoid school whenever they are having their menstruation.
